Homegrown - The little garden that could

I never thought of Hamilton as being a tropical place to live, but compared to Wellington it definitely is. By this time of summer, my Hamilton garden would be in full flourish - whereas here I'm just waiting for things to get started. It's going to take me some getting used to.

Come on little garden. Grow!

The good news is we've had a lot of rain over the last 24 hours, so I won't need to worry about watering my garden for a little while.

What's growing?

One of my broccoli plants has sprouted a head:

L and I munched our first beans from the garden this week:

One of my heirloom variety tomatoes has started to turn red:

And of course, the zucchinis are out in force now:

It's time to pull out some of my favourite zucchini recipes. Tonight we had Satay noodles again, and L especially liked the peanut-flavoured zucchini slices.

Tomorrow I plan to bake zucchini chocolate chip cookies.

Then later in the week I may cook up a batch of zucchini and basil pesto pasta.

And of course, like last year I'll be grating and freezing any excess to use throughout winter and spring.
