It took me a while (three and a half years) to come up with a system where I actually add lime to my worm farm. Until now it's been sporadic at best, and we've suffered the smell for it.
Before I would sprinkle some lime directly onto the top layer of decomposing scraps, whenever I remembered - which was only every few months.
Now I keep a jar of garden lime next to my scraps container in the kitchen, and scoop a tablespoon of it into the container as it's filling. That way the lime gets nicely spread throughout the scraps in the worm farm, which keeps acidity (and smell!) down.

ReplyDeleteGreat idea about the lime. One question: do you find that when you add your vermicast to your garden that you get a whole lot of seeds sprouting?
With mine, I seem to get hundreds of tiny seedlings (presumably from tomato seeds etc. that I've put into the worm farm)and it is rather time consuming to weed them all out.
