In my life before two kids, I used to help out on Scripture Union camps around New Zealand. It's how I met my husband and many of my closest friends.
On one of the snow camps I lead on, our cook Sarah made banana splits with hot fudge sauce for dessert one night and the sauce blew my socks off. I had to get the recipe off her, and when I took over cooking duties for the next three years, banana splits with hot fudge sauce always made it into my menu plan.
Now I'm just cooking for my family, but banana splits have become the way we celebrate momentous occasions around here, eg. L toilet training both night and day. I always brew up a small saucepan of hot fudge sauce for these occasions, to take them from ordinary to extraordinary.
Ingredients
- 60g butter
- 1/2c raw organic sugar
- 1T cocoa
- 1/4c cream, milk or evaporated milk
Method
1. Melt the butter in a saucepan.
2. Stir through the rest of the ingredients and bring to a rolling boil on a medium heat for 3-5 minutes. (The longer you boil, the thicker the sauce will become.)
3. Drizzle hot over icecream and banana splits.
Yum! I just heat cream and then add in a dash of argave and some dark chocolate. Let the chocolate sit in the hot cream and then whisk and you get a yummy dark velvety sauce...so good! : )
ReplyDeleteOoh that sounds deeply decadent too!
DeleteOh Yum! I'm going to make this sauce tonight as it sounds like it will juzz up some rather below par ice-cream that we have at the moment!
