Trim Healthy Mama Fuel Cycle update - Day 1

I just wanted to let you know that I made it through Day 1 of my Trim Healthy Mama Fuel Cycle and it went really well.

I think it's good that Serene and Pearl start the Cycle out with three days of Deep S, since that's the easiest eating style for me to follow.

I didn't feel hungry at all today. In fact, I got really busy in the middle of the day and didn't eat lunch till 3pm. Whoops! Going more than 4 hours without food is a big no-no, so I'm upset that I let that happen, but hopefully my body will forgive me.

One thing I noticed about myself today is how often I could have eaten extra food by finishing off what my kids didn't manage. I had to keep restraining myself from finishing off S's bit of muffin and smoothie, or the wonky bit of apple slice that couldn't go in the dehydrator.

I must usually do a lot of unintentional eating during the day, but I was very conscious of it today because I didn't want to do anything to mess up this Fuel Cycle.

Anyhoo, here's a little look at what I ate today, with my comments below.

Breakfast: Serene's steamed omega sensations p. 214. (Basically, eggs cooked in coconut oil on a low heat.)
Notes: On a whim I decided to whip up a green salad to go with my eggs. It contained rocket, coriander/cilantro, fancy lettuce, celery, cucumber, white balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. I'm glad I ate this on top of what I had planned, since I didn't eat lunch till so much later and I think the salad helped tide me over.

Morning Tea:
Notes: We were out at Mainly Music for morning tea, and usually the baking there is the undoing of me, but I managed to resist today and drank a hot ginger tea instead. So good! I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything. 

Drink: Earth Milk p. 425 (S version)

Notes: I was fully expecting to hate this, but was really surprised by how nice (and addictive!) it was. I made the drink quite late in the day, due to busyness, and have already drunk the whole jar. After my first drink I felt a little queasy, but that soon passed and then I wanted more. I will definitely be making this again! 

Lunch: Thai pumpkin salmon coconut soup

Notes: I keep lots of small containers of pureed pumpkin in my freezer so I can quickly whip up a pumpkin salmon soup like this for lunch. 

Today I heated the pumpkin on the stove, stirred through a tin of red salmon, added the juice of a lemon, a squirt of fish sauce, a small bunch of chopped coriander/cilantro, and salt and pepper. After taking it off the heat, I stirred through a tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil. This soup was extremely satisfying. 

Dinner: Bolar roast with roast low-carb vegetables

Notes: I put this in the slow cooker when I should have been eating my lunch. The Bolar roast was one I got from my sister's farm as part of a 1/4 beef cow I purchased off her. 

To cook it, I simply fried the roast on both sides to brown and then transferred it to the slow cooker. In the same pan I cooked a diced onion, with diced celery and capsicum and a big sprinkle of dried Thyme. That mixture went into the slow cooker and I let the whole thing cook on low till dinner time. I ate the roast beef sliced up with the vegetables and felt very satisfied. We've got a lot of leftover meat now, which I was anticipating, so we're going to use some of it in tomorrow night's Thai Beef Salad. 

Dessert: Decadent chocolate

Notes: A little while after eating my pumpkin salmon soup, I felt like a sweet treat and this was it. S saw me eating it and had a large helping herself. She loves this chocolate as much as I do. It hit the spot and I haven't needed any more today. My Earth Milk has served as dessert tonight. Yummy!
